Our commitment to sustainability
Sustainability is at the heart of well managed tropical forestry as the forests are managed for the future. There is no clearfell in tropical forestry, this is conversion to agriculture or domestic pressures. Reduced Impact Logging is widely practiced in Tropical Forestry which helps to minimise damage to the standing forest. Well managed tropical forestry contributes to 14 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Timber Industry in itself is a huge Environmental Social Governance Driver.
We have both certified timbers and UKTR compliant well managed forests timbers.
Specialist Joinery Softwoods
Our Specialist Joinery Softwoods are sourced from mature well managed forests in North America and Europe.
Specialist joinery softwoods are used for interior joinery in the main. From skirtings, facings, stairs, windows doors, linings, panelling and traditional shutters. Clear timbers are typically required for these end uses to give a clean finish.
- Clear Douglas Fir from North America.
- Larch
- Southern Yellow Pine
- Quebec Yellow Pine
- Parana Pine
- Pitch Pine from Honduras which has UKTR.
These timbers are sourced from forests which are responsibly felled, managed under the American forestry with PEFC certification available on some species.

Constructional Softwood Timbers
Douglas Fir & Larch are the two main constructional Softwood Timbers. Typically used in boat building, marine fenders, posts and bridges these timbers are naturally durable.
Treatment can be applied if required.
Laminated Timbers
Lamination is the process of forming multiple sheets solid timber and bonded together by very strong adhesives, to produce rigid, fixed dimension structures.
There are several types of lamination available and G&A offers a range of products in both Oak, Meranti and Sapele.
Profiled Timbers
Profiled timbers is where timber has been machined to create a ready to use interior door or window framing timber, cladding or skirting board.
G&A offer this in Meranti, Oak Veneered, Decking boards in Balau, Redwood and Keruing Half Flap.
Ayous ThermoWood Timbers
New stock in 2022, these Ayous Thermowood Timbers are thermally treated Central African softwood timbers which during the 100% natural heating process which is done via biomass heating, cell changes make the timber more durable. These timbers are a good alternative to Western Red Cedar or the now unavailable Siberian Larch cladding timbers.
