Laminated Timbers

Laminated timber is a multi-layer engineered product which helps provide a reliable product service life.  For example Oak can be prone to movement but after the laminating process this is almost completely eliminated.

Please contact our team for expert advice on our extensive range of products across Oak, Red Pine, Meranti and Sapele.

Why laminate timber?

Product:

Lamination gives a very stable timber product, ideal for timber windows and doors which when they are painted the jointing is unseen.

Commercial:

In a commercial sense it utilises waste wood from sawn sizes, maximises yield from the log, generating additional revenue for the sawmills, often operating in economically fragile areas.

Social Returns Case Study:

Home Maker to Home Builder:  Republic of Congo, FSC.

A fantastic investment initiative set up by one of our key FSC suppliers to introduce a lamination line on site, powered by its own CHP plant.   Importantly the company wanted to provide further female employment in a part of the world where women are traditionally and culturally the homemakers and employment opportunities for females very limited.

There are 45 females employed on the laminate lines in a part of the forest where no female employment existed previously.

This initiative directly furthers UN Sustainable Development Goals of:

  • Gender equality,
  • Productive employment for all and an
  • End to poverty

Nicola Aitken who visited the line in 2023 commented:

‘As a woman also balancing childcare and work I naturally asked about childcare arrangements. I was told that childcare has been easily covered by the surrounding family and community. Traditionally women stay at home so it gives a precious opportunity. The women are deservedly very proud of their work.’

Forest & Environment:

The forest is left in tact due to the low impact logging.  See our film on the home page for more information on how reduced impact logging is done in well managed tropical forestry for joinery and engineering hardwood timbers.

Carbon reduction continuous improvement:  Buying laminates from source supports supply chain decarbonisation.  The more value add done at source, the more carbon efficient the timber transport.
