Sea Defence Marine Timber Suppliers

Gilmour & Aitken Ltd, and historically G&As sister company Aitken & Howard Ltd have been supplying marine timbers to the Sea Defence and Marine Defence market for decades.

Typical Timbers used for Sea and Marine Defence include Greenheart Timber from Guyana (link to Greenheart), Ekki (link to Ekki) and Opepe from West Africa (link to opepe), each of which can be supplied by Gilmour & Aitken, as well as other timber types.

These timbers are FSC® certified and are sourced from sustainable forests, supporting trade in developing nations and the UN goals. Gilmour & Aitken holds significant stocks of sea defence timbers, so can offer unusual stock sizes at short notice, graded if required.

width you can ‘box the heart’.  Due to its straight grain it also piles very well with an experienced piling contractor, avoiding any shattering and Health and Safety risk on site.

As well as timber groynes, our sea defence timbers can also be use supplied for wave screens and sea walls etc. They are effective for both new schemes and maintenance work.

Did you know our sustainable Sea Defence timbers are carbon champions?

Greenheart, Ekki and Opepe as D70 and D50 timbers are both technically well proven capable timbers but they are also a route to supporting Net Zero.  These timbers due to their density offer a high embodied carbon which can be claimed due to their sustainable source.

In 2023 Gilmour & Aitken completed their EPD with Ricardo which proves after Felling and all factors inbetween, the end product ex our yard stores 1.24tons of Carbon/3.  See Carbon page (create link).

No treatments, no factory processing therefore the material at end of life can be reused.  Never landfill.
